The journey for cardiac surgery ward at civil hospital Karachi started in 1996 when Dr. Abdul Bari Khan completed his fellowship. This 100 years old hospital had all medical & surgical faculties accept cardiac surgery. His dream for free of cost cardiac surgery facility at civil hospital was the beginning of many such wonders to follow ———–included today’s INDUS HOSPITAL.
Ably Supported and encouraged by the government; donors and social workers the department of cardiac surgery established as a land mark public private partnership project for free of cost cardiac surgery. Mr. Abdullah Feroze (Efroze Chemical Industries) Mr. Rehan Hannan ( Khas Group ) Mr. Tariq Shafi, Mr. Nadeem Naseem and many more brought their benevolence to overcome resource constraints and register the Friends of cardiac surgery (NGO) to support the department in its future needs.
Today after two decades this cardiac surgery ward is providing free of cost cardiac surgery to the needy patients, exposed generations of medical students to the art of cardiac surgery, trained cardiac technicians, Cardiac Nurses, Junior Doctors, Perfusionists, Cardiac Surgeons and thus crowning the academic achievement of Dow University of Health sciences.
